Golden Triangle Receives TVA’s Rural Certified Communities Designation

Golden Triangle, Miss., - The Golden Triangle region has recently been designated a Rural Certified Community by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

The Golden Triangle is the first regional economic development organization to certify a multi-county region in the program’s three-year span. At the conclusion of this year’s cycle, a total of nine economic development organizations have certified since the program’s inaugural year in 2018.

“Programs like these from TVA help us gather important critiques for our community, make improvements and market successfully to potential investment from employers,” said Higgins. “I’d like to thank Meryl, Betsy and Macaulay for their work on this. They worked this program start to finish and I’m extremely pleased that they earned our region this certification.”

The program, sponsored by TVA Economic Development (TVAED) and administered by global site selection firm, Strategic Development Group (SDG), requires applicants to submit a detailed RFI and presentation. SDG administers the program, providing third-party evaluation and feedback related to organizational strategic planning efforts and operational effectiveness from the site selection perspective. Organizations who complete this program are recognized as being prepared to compete for job creation and investment.

“Creativity and innovation are among our country’s greatest resources and companies are seeking locations that can provide access to those resources. Rural communities must work smarter to define themselves in a unique way, develop robust and broadly defined economic development strategies, and market to a more targeted audience,” said SDG Vice President Jeannette Goldsmith. “The LINK presentation is one of the best applications and pitch days that we’ve seen in three years.”

Communities were evaluated on categories like marketing, strategic planning, workforce, sites and buildings and other criteria. TVA launched Rural Certified Communities in 2018 as a collaborative effort by TVA Economic Development, its Rural Cabinet partners and Strategic Development Group.

“TVA was created to help improve the quality of life for the people of the Valley, particularly in our more rural areas. We are proud to further that mission by supporting the Rural Certified program,” said TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley. “Communities who are able to differentiate themselves and understand their unique assets will be better positioned for economic success.”
