Lowndes County Partners Honor Thomas L. Lee, Sr. for Decades of Service

Golden Triangle, Mississippi – Economic development partners in Lowndes County gathered today to honor Thomas L. Lee, Sr., as he retires from his service as a board member of the Lowndes County Industrial Development Authority (LCIDA).

Appointed in 1994 by the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors, Lee served as president of the board for the majority of his term. During his tenure, his leadership was instrumental in the development of the Golden Triangle Regional Industrial Aerospace Park and the recruitment of companies like SDI, PACCAR, Airbus, Aurora Flight Sciences, Stark Aerospace and many more.

Created under a 1974 state law, Lowndes County Industrial Development Authority (LCIDA) was formed as a Lowndes County subsidiary that oversees economic development efforts. LCIDA is responsible for land purchases for industrial location and expansion along with building and maintenance of infrastructure at the Lowndes County Industrial Park near the Golden Triangle Regional Airport.

The water treatment facility located on Charliegh D. Ford Drive will be named in his honor as the Thomas L. Lee, Sr., Water Treatment Plant #2.

“How can you put what he’s done for our area into a quote,” said Joe Max Higgins, CEO of the Golden Triangle Development LINK. “I worked with Thomas as chairman of LCIDA for nearly two decades. During his time Lowndes County saw its greatest growth in industrial investment in the county’s history. He is the consummate volunteer, no task to big or small.”

While on the board, Lee oversaw the recruitment of $7.4 billion in capital investment and the creation of 7,802 jobs.

“I’m having trouble imagining what it will be like putting together a project without Thomas at the table, said Higgins. “I hope he isn’t surprised when I call him from time to time to ask him what he would do.”
