Groundbreaking held for new FedEx Ground Facility in Lowndes County
01/27/2022
Golden Triangle, Mississippi – An official groundbreaking ceremony was held today to celebrate the construction of a new FedEx Ground facility in the Golden Triangle Regional Industrial Aerospace Park.
Located on Charliegh Ford Road northwest of the Golden Triangle Regional Airport, the site preparation for the building is already underway and the facility is slated to be completed in 2022.
“We’re happy to be sticking shovels in the ground today,” said Joe Max Higgins, CEO of the Golden Triangle Development LINK. “It’s one of our favorite past times. These investments will generate opportunities for our citizens and we’re happy to support FedEx Ground as they expand their footprint in the Golden Triangle.”
Property for the project was purchased by the company from the Lowndes County Industrial Development Authority.
The Westmoreland Company was the real estate developer on the project.
“Nearly two decades ago, we anticipated the shifting demands of e-commerce and began to transform our network by investing in automated facilities and real-time technology innovations like we will have here in Columbus to revolutionize ground shipping services,” said Ron Lewis, FedEx Ground Delta District Managing Director. “At more than 217,000 square feet, this facility will have the capacity to sort 9,000 packages per hour, and will enable us to provide faster and more reliable ground service in the Columbus area and beyond.”
The FedEx Ground facility in Columbus will be looking to hire team members when the facility opens later this year. Open positions include a mix of part and full-time package handlers with growth opportunities as the company continues to expand capacity in response to ongoing customer demand.
