NorthStar Industrial Park Awarded Site Development Grant by Governor Tate Reeves

Golden Triangle, Mississippi – Governor Tate Reeves announced today the state of Mississippi is investing nearly $25 million in site development projects throughout the state. Site development grant funds made available through the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA), Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and the RESTORE Act are assisting local economic development entities in their efforts to spur economic growth by attracting new industry to competitive, shovel-ready sites.

“Shovel-ready sites are a top priority for companies seeking a new location,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “By investing in these sites today, we are laying a foundation upon which companies can quickly locate, expand and create jobs for future generations of Mississippians.”

The NorthStar Industrial Park in Starkville, Mississippi has been awarded a site development grant in the amount of $679,775 from the state and $2,719,102 in ARC SAAW funding for competitive site preparation work. The Golden Triangle Development LINK submitted NorthStar, and other sites in the region, in November of 2021 to the Mississippi Development Authority as part of a site the Mississippi Site Development Program. MDA and South Carolina-based firm Strategic Development Group evaluated site applications from communities across the state for readiness, strengths, weaknesses and project suitability.

“We are extremely grateful and surprised to receive the full funding for this project,” said Joe Max Higgins, CEO of the Golden Triangle Development LINK. “We believe strongly in the potential for NorthStar Park to have a major impact on the Golden Triangle and it is clear that the Governor and MDA do too.”

In an effort to fully equip sites in our state for maximum success, the Governor’s office partnered with the Appalachian Regional Commission to augment funding resources and fully fund site requests, like the one submitted for the NorthStar Industrial Park.

Under the leadership of Governor Tate Reeves, the Mississippi Development Authority formed the Mississippi Site Development Grant Program to increase the number of highly competitive industrial sites in the state that are available and ready to meet prospective companies’ needs.

The funds will be applied to projects on site including an additional pad-ready site development, clearing and grubbing, stream mitigation and other work to enhance the visibility and development potential of Starkville and Oktibbeha county’s $14-million industrial park.
